In order to actively respond to the call of the National Food Safety Publicity Week, enhance the food safety awareness of young students, and practice the slogan of "Food Safety: Science in Action", on the occasion of the 7th World Food Safety Day, China University of Petroleum (East China) and Ocean University of China came to Zhanshan Community to jointly carry out the theme activity of "Food Safety for Kids · Programming Dream Building".

This activity is not only an in-depth cooperation between the Youth League branches of the two schools, but also an active exploration of the university's strength to go deep into the community, from the "ivory tower" to the "fireworks", and use professional advantages to help popularize food safety knowledge, demonstrating the responsibility and innovative spirit of universities in social services.

At the beginning of the activity, Wang Zitong, the secretary of the Food 2402 League of Hyde College of Ocean University of China, introduced the snack stalls around the school as the background, and introduced the nutritional characteristics of daily basic foods and daily food safety signs through the switching of common food picture animations, opening the "Food Safety Knowledge Classroom". The vivid stories made the difficult-to-understand food spoilage problem interesting and easy to understand, and the multi-angle analysis made the children more determined to eat less junk food.

Through simulated shopping and knowledge quiz sessions, the children answered questions with the knowledge they had just learned, deepening their understanding of food safety knowledge. Zhang Xinyi, monitor of Hyde Food 2402 of Ocean University of China, said: "We hope that through this event, we can use richer forms and easier-to-understand language to let food safety knowledge take root in the hearts of children and protect their healthy and happy growth."

Immediately afterwards, the Youth League Branch of Software 2404 of China University of Petroleum (East China) and the Children's Programming Teaching Team integrated food knowledge into programming content through easy-to-understand children's programming content, and through knowledge breakthroughs, audio interaction, and scratch, the boring programming knowledge was turned into an interesting game challenge: During the programming process, children need to identify spoiled fruits based on colour detection, and the identification process requires the use of conditional judgment statements in programming; in the "Nutrition Calculator" environment, children need to use programming statements for variable operations, and use statements to obtain nutritional values ​​from food weights, and use programming to popularize the nutritional value of different foods to children.

Throughout the programming process, volunteers ensured that every child could keep up with the pace and not fall behind through the "two-to-one" assistance strategy. Finally, the volunteer representatives of the two schools made a summary speech on the event and awarded the title of "Little Food Safety Warrior" to each child on the scene, which brought the event to a perfect end.
