07/06/2025

Djibouti, 1 June, 2025

The Djibouti Agency for Standards and Quality (ADN) organized a training and orientation workshop for members of the Technical Committee for Food Standardization (CTN001) 1–2 June 2025. This training is part of the European Union-funded programme "Promoting Regional Economic Integration in the Horn of Africa through the Development of the Djibouti Corridor," managed by the French Development Agency and implemented by TradeMark Africa.

This strategic workshop, officially inaugurated by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, aimed to provide CTN001 members with the necessary tools to actively and effectively participate in the development and revision of national food standards, in accordance with the international guidelines of the Codex Alimentarius.

Led by Mr. Omar Wais Guédi, a food safety specialist and Codex Contact Point (CCP), the members of the National Codex Committee benefitted from two days of training sessions covering the following topics:

  • Codex Alimentarius procedures and mechanisms
  • Principles of health risk assessment
  • Regulatory trends at the regional and international levels
  • Developing leadership skills for better standards governance.

This initiative is part of a regional effort aimed at aligning national priorities with international requirements for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and actively contributing to the implementation of the commitments of the Kampala Declaration on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). Through this action, the Republic of Djibouti reaffirms its commitment to modernizing its national standards system, strengthening food safety, and promoting the country's integration into regional and international trade.
