World Food Safety Day / Subregional Mekong capacity building project launched
On 5 June 2025, the Mekong Institute (MI), in partnership with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), held a workshop to launch the Mekong CREATES (Mekong Capacity-Building for Resilient and Enhanced Agricultural Technologies and Food Systems) project in Khon Kaen, Thailand, marking World Food Safety Day 2025.
The event gathered stakeholders from Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, and Viet Nam to discuss critical links between food safety and climate change.
The workshop highlighted how climate change impacts food safety risks, promoted regional cooperation, and initiated a Regional Community of Practice to ensure lasting collaboration. It also encouraged reflections on building resilient food systems across the region.
MI aims to contribute to the global World Food Safety Day campaign by fostering awareness and action on food safety and climate change.
