12/06/2025

A short video to amplify youth perspectives on the importance of food safety, inspired by this year's theme: 'Food Safety; Science in Action, was created by Iradat Bisola Oladejo, a food scientist from Oyo, Nigeria, on the occasion of World Food Safety Day.

In the video, she interviewed young professionals and students from various parts of the world, including Badiora Olanike, a PhD student at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria; Vania Kwan, a student at the University of British Columbia in Canada; Abdullahi Muhammad, a master’s student at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman (from Nigeria); George Gitau, a Master’s student at the University of Cambridge in the UK (from Kenya); Diana Chicango, a student at Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural School in the United States; Charles Chilombu, a student at the University of Zambia; and Zakariya Dau'da, a student at Usman Danfodiyo University in Nigeria.

They shared their thoughts on what food safety means to them, why it is important, and one science-based food safety practice they observe in their daily lives. The video aims to raise awareness about the everyday role of science in food safety and the importance of youth engagement in creating safer food systems globally.
