12/06/2025
At the Raffles and Fairmont Hotels in Doha, Qatar, Hygiene Manager, Irshad Nazarudeen, organized an educational display for her colleagues and staff to bring home some details on food safety hazards as part of her “Science in action” campaign – the first time World Food safety Day was celebrated here.
“It was a successful and memorable gathering that brought our team together in the spirit of learning and celebration,” said Nazarudeen. Activities included:
- “Behind the Bite – Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility”: Hallways were transformed into a visual journey highlighting each department’s role in food safety. Every team member plays a vital part in keeping food safe.
- Science in Action — Video Awareness Session
Before entering the main campaign area, employees scanned a QR code using their mobile phones, which took them directly to an exclusive video session highlighting the science behind each hygiene practice and explaining why we follow them. - Meet the Germs. Nazarudeen’s team created huge 3D models of bacteria and hazardous foods to make invisible threats visible! Alongside the models, they shared amusing facts about each germ—like its name, food sources, incubation time, and prevention tips—to make learning fun and memorable.
- Zoom Into Life: Employees had a chance to see live bacteria under microscopes — turning invisible microbes into a fascinating reality. This hands-on experience helped them truly understand why hygiene matters every day.
- Know Your Tools: On display were key food safety tools—thermometers, pH meters, bacterial counters—and gave hands-on demonstrations. Many experienced these instruments for the first time, gaining practical knowledge on how to maintain critical safety limits.
- Bowl of Knowledge: A fun quiz corner where employees picked food safety questions from a bowl and submitted answers to win prizes! This interactive activity boosted engagement and encouraged everyone to think critically about food safety.
- Guidance Team Key Messages on the World Food Safety Day: the hygiene team broadcast their commitment to food safety across the hotel via internal TV screens. From our Managing Director to key leaders, each leader delivered heartfelt messages to inspire colleagues. Their messages focused on the importance of creating a culture of food safety.
- Posing Proudly for Food Safety: a photo booth was set up where employees posed with the World Food Safety Day tagline.
