جنيف/روما/نيويورك/واشنطن - ازداد انعدام الأمن الغذائي الحاد وسوء تغذية الأطفال للعام السادس على التوالي في عام 2024، مما دفع بملايين الأشخاص إلى شفير الهاوية، وذلك في بعض أكثر مناطق العالم عرضة للمخاطر، وفقًا للتقرير العالمي عن الأزمات الغذائية الذي صدر اليوم.

ويشير التقرير إلى أنّ النزاعات والصدمات الاقتصادية والأحوال المناخية القصوى والنزوح القسري استمرت في تأجيج انعدام الأمن الغذائي وسوء التغذية في مختلف أنحاء العالم، وانطوى ذلك على آثار كارثية طالت العديد من المناطق التي تعاني بالفعل من الهشاشة.

The AgriTech Observatory, an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for countries in Europe and Central Asia, has been officially recognized as a Digital Public Good (DPG) by the Digital Public Goods Alliance—a multi-stakeholder initiative endorsed by the United Nations to promote open-source technologies that accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On March 26th, 2025, the Office of Innovation hosted a dynamic session of the Junior Innovation Policy Labs at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The event provided a platform for young minds to dive into the world of agrifood systems, policy, and innovation and brought together enthusiastic Erasmus students who participated in interactive basecamps and roleplays, addressing real-world issues in policy, science, and technology.

هونيارا، جزر سليمان - كشفت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (المنظمة) اليوم عن تفاصيل تحديث رئيسي لمنهجية مؤشر حالة الأرصدة السمكية (SoSI) في قمة هونيارا في جزر سليمان (24-27 فبراير/شباط).

وقد مثل هذا الأمر خطوة مهمة للمضي قدمًا في تتبّع مصايد الأسماك وإدارتها بكفاءة أكبر، ودعم الجهود العالمية الرامية إلى تعزيز الإدارة الفعالة للمحيط وموارده.

Rome - The rise in nitrogen fertilizers over the past century has significantly contributed to enhancing agricultural production and bolstering food security and nutrition for an expanding global population. Nevertheless, improper use of nitrogen can severely damage air, water, and soil quality, result in biodiversity loss, and exacerbate climate change.

Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Rwanda have emerged as winners in the FAO Global Innovation Challenge on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (SAM) through Farmer Field Schools (FFS). These countries' groundbreaking proposals aim to address mechanization challenges faced by smallholder farmers, focusing on increasing productivity, reducing labor burdens, and improving livelihoods. Each will receive a grant of USD 200,000 to bring their plans to life.

FAO has been strengthening the link between science, research, and development by advancing practical tools and policy guidance designed to make a real difference on the ground.
Conflicts, climate crisis, economic strife, and a growing global population are all placing enormous pressure on our agrifood systems, which urgently need to be transformed to ensure they are more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient, and more sustainable.
In this regard, science and innovation provide the solutions to address these challenges.

Rome – Freza Nanotech Limited, a startup from Uganda, has won the 2024 Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Innovation Award for developing a groundbreaking nanotechnology-based solution that extends the shelf life of fruits and reduces postharvest losses. The award ceremony took place today at FAO’s headquarters in Rome, on the sidelines of the 176th Session of the FAO Council.
